Come awa' the Heather! The story of Dunblane Football Club 1879-1914
Dunblane Football Club, known as the Heather, was once a force to be reckoned with in Scottish football. In the club's heyday, thousands of spectators crammed into Duckburn Park to see their heroes, and special trains would run to away games.
For a small town club, Dunblane was extraordinarily successful, winning the Perthshire Cup a dozen times, producing international quality players and notching up a barrowload of goals. Sadly, the team faded in the professional era and disbanded in 1914 on the outbreak of the First World War, a conflict which claimed the lives of many of its players.
Local historian Andy Mitchell has researched the story of the Heather, writing an entertaining account of the key events and personalities, accompanied by a who's who of the Dunblane players and a complete record of all the club's results.
